Specialized electives added to high school curriculum

Pelham Memorial High School in New York has added 17 electives to its curriculum this year that focus more on specialized interests, such as guitar and war history, as a way to round out the usual lineup of reading, math and science lessons. Several other high schools have added such courses, saying they create more enthusiasm and interest in learning and are less stressful than typical college preparatory courses.
