Durable goods orders jump; Cat raises guidance

Orders for U.S. durable goods jumped 1% in September, marking the fourth increase in six months. A 7.9% increase in orders for machinery boosted the metric, as did a 2% rise in non-defense capital goods. Manufacturing companies Caterpillar and Eaton Corp. have raised full-year guidance on predictions of recovery.
