Few veterinarians specialize in exotic-pet care

Exotic-pet owners often find it hard to get their animals proper medical care because of a shortage of veterinarians specializing in that area. The University of Florida offers one of the few programs nationwide that provides the necessary training for veterinarians interested in treating exotic pets. "Although you only need a standard veterinary degree to practice medicine on exotic animals, we like to see people have extra training," a professor at the university said.
