Juice cleanses are popular among celebrities, and prepackaged products have given the concept mainstream appeal, according to this article. However, experts say the cleanses can stress the body and cause dangerous spikes and crashes in blood-sugar levels. Psychiatrist Marianne Gillow says cleanses "fuel obsessive thinking" and do not allow people who have trouble managing their weight to "make peace with real food."
