Nanotechnology may help slay "vampire" appliances

"Vampire power" consumed by appliances that are supposed to be turned off accounts for up to 10% of U.S. domestic energy consumption, but researchers say nanotechnology could help provide a solution. Transistors dribble energy even when they're in an "off" position, but nano-scale components could provide a tighter seal, ensuring that less energy trickles through.
