FINRA settles with SEC in altered-records case

The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority agreed to hire an independent consultant and improve its internal compliance procedures after a director in the Kansas City, Mo., office allegedly doctored records requested by the Securities and Exchange Commission. The SEC is considering whether FINRA could be a self-regulatory organization for investment advisers.
