GDP grew at 2.5% annual rate in third quarter; recession fears fade

Gross domestic product increased at a 2.5% annual rate in the third quarter, compared with 1.3% in the second quarter and 0.9% in the first half, the Commerce Department said. GDP didn't grow enough to bring down unemployment, but the increase indicates that the risk of the U.S. slipping into another recession has diminished, analysts said.
