Hollywood cuts out middlemen, rents films via Facebook

Movie studios increasingly are using Facebook as a platform to stream films to consumers, cutting out services such as Hulu and Netflix. Warner Bros., Lionsgate and Universal collectively have distributed about 45 films via the "Social Cinema" application, while Miramax and Paramount have used other apps to offer a total of about 20 movies.
