A restoration project on the United States Capitol Dome in Washington, D.C., is under way, according to Stephen Ayers, architect of the Capitol. The work will involve repairs to the "historic ironwork, sandstone and brick masonry" at the skirt of the structure. The initiative is slated to be completed in the fall season of 2012. Rhode Island-based Gilbane Building was awarded a $10.5 million contract for the work.
