Airport scanners might affect insulin pumps, glucose monitors

Full-body or X-ray scanners and low-pressure conditions on airplanes might trigger an electromagnetic malfunction in the motor of an insulin delivery pump or continuous glucose monitoring device, an editorial in Diabetes Technology and Therapeutics warned. Patients who use such devices may present airport authorities letters from their doctors to ensure that they be hand-checked to prevent the devices from malfunctioning, the journal's senior editor said.
