DoE earmarks $37 million for N.Y. smart grid initiative

The U.S. Department of Energy is providing a $37 million grant to New York to help the state upgrade its power distribution infrastructure. The federal stipend will comprise nearly half of the funding for the state's $75 million smart grid initiative, which is designed to boost reliability, prevent future blackouts and mitigate loss along the electrical grid.
