Pa. district weighs options for balancing its school-meal budget

Officials in a Pennsylvania school district are considering ways to curb losses from its foodservices budget after losing $240,000 during the 2012-13 school year. Officials attribute some of the losses to fewer students eating healthier meals under new federal standards, but other factors, such as staffing, also may have contributed, they say. Limiting involvement in the National School Lunch Program is one of several options the school board will consider during an upcoming session.
