Study: FMT is most cost-effective C. diff treatment

Fecal microbiota transplantation delivered via colonoscopy is the most cost-effective treatment for recurrent Clostridium difficile infection, Massachusetts General Hospital researchers reported at the American College of Gastroenterology 2013 Annual Scientific Meeting. The study compared fecal transplantation, metronidazole, vancomycin and fidaxomicin. With cure rates above 96.4% and recurrence below 6.9%, FMT via colonoscopy was most the most cost-effective treatment, at a cost of less than $1,223.
