San Francisco schools chief sets forth vision for reform

In her second annual State of the Schools address yesterday, San Francisco Superintendent Arlene Ackerman laid out her plans to turn the district into the nation's highest-performing urban school system. With her speech coming just five days before a Board of Education election which could determine her future in the post, some observers accuse Ackerman of political maneuvering.
