Accor plans to raise Sofitel brand a notch into luxury level

France-based hotel chain Accor plans to boost its Sofitel brand from upmarket to luxury to better compete with brands such as Westin and St. Regis. The plans include separating the chain's highest-level properties, such as the Sofitel in Manhattan, from less inspiring properties, which will be placed into a business traveler category and sold under the Pullman name.
