Supermarkets get smaller

Grocers including Wal-Mart, Whole Foods, Safeway and Jewel-Osco are scaling down the size of their stores to create more convenience while shrinking their overhead. The median size of a supermarket was 47,500 square feet last year, according to an industry group.
