Recruitment of skilled foreign workers wanes

Companies have cut back on the number of visa applications they are securing for highly skilled overseas workers. Last year, companies took all 65,000 applications in one day; this year, only 46,700 petitions were filed in about the first six months of availability. The decline is a result of government anti-immigration sentiment, a struggling economy and rising hiring costs.
