Many mobile banking services fill a void in Africa

Although Safaricom's M-Pesa in Kenya has garnered much of the attention, a number of major mobile banking services have taken root on the African continent. They're all filling a vast void of traditional banking for a widely dispersed population that has enthusiastically adopted cellphones. The number of mobile phones on the continent grew from 2 million in 1998 to 400 million in 2009, according to the African Development Bank.
