BuzzFeed: Documents reveal holes in State Department cybersecurity

The State Department is missing even the most rudimentary procedures for determining whether its computer networks have been breached and assessing the level of damage, according to documents obtained by the online publication BuzzFeed that reveal fundamental flaws in the agency's State Messaging and Archival Toolset. The network handles classified communications and is used by dozens of other agencies. It has reportedly lacked formal accreditation since 2007 and is not in compliance with two key government technology protocols.
