East meets West at 2 Canada PriceSmart stores

Two PriceSmart grocery stores in Canada have been converted to a new format that splits the space in two, with half devoted to mainstream groceries and the other to Asian goods. "We want to educate, not just sell merchandise. [An ethnic grocery store] is the most convenient spot for Western customers to explore Asian culture and food," said Kam Choi, who pioneered ethnic supermarkets at the mall with T&T Supermarkets before joining PriceSmart parent Overwaitea Food Group as ethnic director.
