Philadelphia's poorest face impossible odds for housing

Tens of thousands of Philadelphia residents are on waiting lists for affordable housing, Section 8 vouchers and subsidized housing, and untold more are in need -- but with more than 100,000 people waiting and only a few hundred units coming available in any given year, two of those lists have been closed. "The need for affordable housing in Philadelphia is frankly incredible, and PHA does not have the necessary resources to meet that need by itself," said Kelvin Jeremiah, CEO of the Philadelphia Housing Authority.
