Physician referrals show better quality, study finds

Mayo Clinic researchers found physician raters were more likely to agree or strongly agree with criteria regarding the quality of doctor-provided patient referrals to an internal medicine program compared with nonphysician referrals. Physician referrals were also less likely to be considered as adding little clinical value than referrals from nonphysicians, researchers said. The findings were published in Mayo Clinic Proceedings.
