Gay Catholic leader: Guidelines offer new spin on old theology

A group of Roman Catholic bishops will vote at their annual meeting later this month on a set of guidelines contained in a document called, "Ministry to Persons with a Homosexual Inclination: Guidelines for Pastoral Care." The guidelines teach against same-sex relationships, but do not suggest that homosexuality itself is inherently sinful. Sam Sinnett, president of an organization for Gay Catholics called DignityUSA, said there is some language in the guidelines that "sounds welcoming," but, the document repeats "all the spiritually violent things they've been saying about gay and lesbian Catholics for a couple of decades -- that we are 'objectively disordered' and our relationships are intrinsically evil."
