Proposed Iowa license aims to ease teacher shortages

Iowa career-changers with a bachelor's degree and three years' work experience who register for an online teacher intern program could teach for one year in grades 7 through 12, under a new proposed licensing program. While some say the new plan would be a great way to find teachers for math, special ed and other hard-to-fill subject areas, others say it would lower teaching standards by not adequately preparing teachers to work with teen students.
