Alcatel-Lucent CEO sticks to outlook, plots changes

Alcatel-Lucent surprised analysts today by posting a narrower-than-expected loss while maintaining its earlier guidance that sales would decline in the low to middle single digits for the year. CEO Ben Verwaayen said he would outline in December his plans for returning the equipment maker to profitability, saying only that Alcatel needs to "streamline (its) portfolio."
