Inadequate bridge repairs caused a train hauling pieces of space shuttle rockets to derail last year in Alabama, according to a Federal Railroad Administration investigation. The train crossed the bridge shortly after it was repaired. "The bridge was not properly maintained to accommodate this kind of load," a spokesman for the railway safety agency said. "It doesn't mean the bridge couldn't have carried a (normal) load." The administration did not issue any safety violations or fines.
