NCLB rewrite could mean the end of required tutoring program

States applying for waivers to No Child Left Behind requirements no longer would be required to set aside federal money for the private tutoring of low-income, struggling students, under the law's proposed rewrite. Some research shows the tutoring program has produced mixed results and suffered from little oversight, with some saying the funding would be better spent on other supports, such as in-school tutoring or summer school.
