Banks rush to greet Windows 8 with new apps

The financial industry is wasting no time embracing the launch of Microsoft's Windows 8 operating system, with many institutions working on applications for the new operating system. Customer demand for convenience appears to be the key motivator, with websites less appropriate to the task than apps. "Consumers are demanding a compelling experience from whatever device they wish to use to do their banking. ... Consumers want to do their banking quick, without too many clicks required, and securely, which is what the bank keeps in mind when designing for mobile or tablet," said Charaka Kithulegoda, chief information officer at ING Direct.
