6 Gulf Arab states to build multibillion-dollar rail network

Six Gulf Arab states -- Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates -- have unveiled a plan to jointly build a nearly 1,353-mile, multi-billion dollar rail network to connect all their states by 2018. "Some key milestones have been achieved, and we are targeting for the project to be fully operational in 2018," said Ramiz Al-Assar, the World Bank's resident adviser to the Gulf Cooperation Council Secretariat. The selection of members for the GCC authority that will oversee the project is still being made.
