Amazon will begin collecting Connecticut's 6.35% sales tax from online shoppers Friday. The move is part of a settlement it made with the state in February in which Amazon would begin collecting the tax and would build a distribution center in Connecticut. In exchange, the state won't pursue it for back taxes. Amazon just announced it is building three new distribution centers in Maryland and in Florida to establish a physical presence in those states. It also started collecting sales tax in Virginia in September and will start collecting Massachusetts sales tax on Friday.
