BIO opposes use of same names for biosimilars, biologics

Biosimilar drugs should not have the same names as branded biologics because they are made from different cell lines, BIO said. Biosimilars and biologics are not identical. "Use of the same nonproprietary name suggests something that is not true for biosimilars -- that they are the same as the innovator drugs they reference," according to a recent statement from BIO.
