Calif. exchange's approach to dental plans raises concerns

Child-health advocates are urging California health insurance exchange officials to encourage or require carriers to include pediatric dental benefits in their basic benefits packages in 2015. Pediatric dental benefits are considered essential under the Affordable Care Act, but California did not require health insurers to include pediatric dental coverage in medical plans sold on the state's exchange. Some observers worry California will move too far in the other direction now, leading to an exchange with no stand-alone dental options.
