Infant formula grows functional food category

The fastest growing segment in the healthy and functional food and beverage category was infant formula, which accounted for $5 billion in global sales in 2013, according to Euromonitor International. Energy drinks came in second at $3.5 billion and pre- and probiotic yogurt accounted for $2.4 billion. The segments identified as functional and fortified foods, organic and better-for-you-foods all saw increased growth this year.
