Infosys to pay $35 million in fines for alleged B-1 visa misuse

Infosys is defending itself against charges that it illegitimately used short-term B-1 worker visas to bring foreign employees into the U.S. for longer stays -- typically governed by more stringent H-1B visas -- denying that it had any intention to engage in visa and immigration fraud. The India-based software firm has reportedly agreed to pay $35 million in fines to avoid future visa restrictions after a federal grand jury subpoenaed the company for records related to its use of temporary B-1 business visas.
