Lawmakers question urgency of patent reform at House hearing

The House Judiciary Committee held a hearing this week on the Innovation Act, a bill that seeks to address the issue of "patent trolls." Several lawmakers urged the committee to move cautiously while looking to reform the patent-litigation system, and suggested that the issue of patent trolling has been overblown. "The problem we confront with the so-called 'patent trolls,' while real, is not, in my opinion, nearly as enormous as it has been portrayed," said Rep. Mel Watt, D-N.C.
