Nurse practitioners are qualified to fill primary care gap

Ease of access and an empathetic approach are bringing some patients to nurse practitioners for primary care, Archana Pyati writes. NPs will play a role in addressing the health care needs of around 30 million people who are expected to get health insurance under the Affordable Care Act, AANP Co-President Kenneth Miller said. "Studies have shown [that] patients treated by [nurse practitioners] stick to their medication and treatment plans with more success," said Taynin Kopanos, AANP's vice president for government affairs.
