Research: Apple had most Q3 tablet shipments, but Samsung gained share

Shipments of tablet computers were up in the third quarter, but market leader Apple largely didn't share in the growth. IDC estimates that tablet shipments were up 36.7% from the year before, to 47.6 million units, but the 14.1 million iPads shipped represented an increase of only 0.6%. IDC says Samsung Electronics shipped 9.7 million tablets in Q3, an increase of 123%. IHS estimates Apple shipped 14.25 million iPads in the period, compared with 10.7 million for Samsung.
