Retailers are readying for food stamp reduction

A temporary boost to food stamp benefits expires Friday, leaving 48 million Americans with $16 billion less to spend during the next three years. Grocers, discounters, dollar stores and gas stations are expected to feel the cut the most. Kroger might reduce prices to increase sales. "It will certainly have some effect on us and the whole grocery industry," said Jim Hyland, a spokesman for Roundy's.
