Senate bill calls for national renewable portfolio standard

Sens. Mark Udall, D-Colo., and Tom Udall, D-N.M., presented legislation that would require utilities to obtain 25% of their electricity from renewable sources by 2025. The lawmakers plan to insert their proposal into an energy-efficiency bill expected to reach the Senate floor within the year. A similar renewable energy standard plan in 2010 was defeated at the committee level.
