U.S. Fed steers a steady course

Citing mixed signs of U.S. economic health, Federal Reserve policymakers met expectations and decided to extend the $85 billion-a-month bond-buying program. The Fed noted evidence of broader "underlying strength" in the economy but said it will now "await more evidence that progress will be sustained before adjusting the pace of its purchases."
