Merit scholarships may benefit the wealthy

Since Georgia removed the income cap from merit awards to state universities, institutions such as the University of Georgia have seen an increase in attendance from affluent students. Noting the large number of parents who buy their scholarship children cars, some professors quip that the merit scholarship system in the state has been a boon to the automobile industry.
