Governor: Iowa soon could have no physics teachers

In Iowa as many as 162 high-school physics teachers, or 28% of the cohort, will reach retirement age within four years, but only about 64 to 68 college students are preparing to replace them. Not only are physics majors more likely to go into engineering or research after graduation, the state's average teacher salary of $38,381 ranks 42nd in the nation.
