CE companies to cooperate on wireless HD standard

Consumer electronics companies LG, Matsushita, NEC, Samsung, Sony, Toshiba and semiconductor maker SiBeam announced plans to collaborate on an industry standard for wireless short-range transmission of uncompressed high-definition video. The standard will utilize the unlicensed 60GHz radio frequency band to transmit HD video and audio at a rate of 5 gigabits per second over a distance of about 30 feet.
