Australia's S&P/ASX 200 inched up 0.4%, Seoul's Kospi gained 2.6% and New Zealand's NZX 50 added 2.1%. Singapore's Straits Times dropped 0.2%, Taiwan's Taiex advanced 4% and India's Sensex had gained 4.7% by midafternoon.
