Caterpillar plans an Indiana facility for locomotive assembly

Caterpillar plans to assemble locomotives in a 740,000-square-foot building in Muncie, Ind., in which the company will invest $50 million to renovate. The plant is expected to employ 650 workers and begin production in late 2011. Caterpillar will use the plant to sell locomotives to publicly funded passenger-rail companies.
