Being outdoors offers a motivational factor for runners

Treadmills can provide a valuable workout, and research shows there are few biomechanical and metabolic differences between using a treadmill and running outdoors, but being outside can be a big motivator and increase enjoyment in exercising. Fitness specialist James Fell writes that one study showed that outdoor runners ran faster than their treadmill counterparts but did not feel as though they exerted more energy.
