Andrew Revkin takes a look at some of the ways engineers and others are helping to spread knowledge about earthquake-resistant building techniques. He quotes Barry Welliver, a structural engineer, who wrote "Excellent resources for understanding preferred building layouts can be gleaned from the FEMA publication, Designing for Earthquakes: A Manual for Architects." Revkin also notes that thousands of copies of a poster about quake-resistant building were distributed in Pakistan after their quakes.
