Students dig in as middle-school garden takes root

Students at Abbott Middle School in Elgin, Ill., are working with cafeteria manager Miguel Medel on a garden that will provide produce for a school club to use in healthy-cooking demonstrations next year. Leftovers from the cafeteria will be used as compost for the garden, which is part of Medel's efforts to reduce waste and improve nutrition for faculty, staff and students.
