Two men continents apart develop a cheaper prosthetic finger

Richard Van As of South Africa and Ivan Owen of Washington are working together over 10,000 miles to develop a prosthetic finger that is easier to build and cheaper than most prostheses currently available. The two found each other after amputee Van As’s unsuccessful online search for a prosthesis led him to Owen’s mechanical hand prop YouTube videos. They plan to perfect the design of their prosthetic finger and give it to other amputees at no charge.
