Collaboration by consortia promises to change biomedical research

While ongoing budget cuts, the sequester, the government shutdown and a tightening of capital will have deeply negative impacts on biomedical research, a new model is emerging that offers hope, writes FasterCures Executive Director Margaret A. Anderson. "Collaboration in medical research is a game changer," Anderson writes. Research consortia -- which include government entities -- create tools that help the entire biomedical research sector, and increased commitments from governments in Asia and Europe threaten to leave the U.S. behind, she writes.
